1. Basil: Basil plant and leaves have some essential oils, which, when extracted and used, can act as a very effective natural mosquito repellent. It also repels mosquitoes, when grown nearby, in or around the house. There are many different varieties of basil around, so feel free to experiment and find the ones that you like best.

2. Garlic: Unfortunately EATING garlic does not repel mosquitoes. However, having garlic around DOES! Make sure to add some garlic to your flower bed or vegetable garden for added protection!

3. Catnip: Catmint (catnip) can be found thriving almost anywhere. It is from the mint family and grows abundantly both as a commercial plant and as a weed. In fact, in a 2010 study, researchers found that catnip is 10 times more effective than DEET, the ingredient commonly found in bug repellents.

Modern Day Kitchen Layout

The most important aspect of kitchen design is deciding on its layout. Layout of the kitchen determines how efficiently one can cook, clean dishes, eat or socialize. There are few modern layouts:
1. One-walled: These are kitchens designed on a single side of the wall. It saves a lot of space and is best suited for studio type apartments or lofts. All the different equipments used are usually fixated to the same side of the wall.

2. Galley: This is a type of one walled kitchen with a slim outline ideal for smaller spaces and congested spaces. A walk through kitchen which ideally has 2 parallel walls and all the designs are done on these walls facing each other.

3. L - Shaped: This is another very efficient idea for small apartments and best for utilising space. They can be from 10 to 15 feet long to use the space efficiently.
